AIGA Idaho is celebrating this semester’s graduating designers with a graduation celebration at Pitchers and Pints in downtown Boise.

An AIGA Event to show support for this semesters graduating designers. We think that the professional hour at the portfolio event dose not allow the student or professionals enough time to really get to know each other. So lets have some beers and rub elbows a little!

AIGA Idaho is presenting their second LEARNCH event of the year.  This event, scheduled for Wednesday, April 27^th at Ha’ Penny Bridge Pub in downtown Boise, features guest speakers Chad Biggs and Jessica Flynn from Red Sky Public Relations.

Chad and Jessica will be speaking about The Art of Relationships: Fostering Media and Community Relations.

The event is free to all attendees with no host food and drinks by Ha’ Penny.  You can RSVP through the Facebook event listing if you’re planning to attend.

AIGA Idaho is putting on their first annual Student Portfolio Review.  This event, scheduled for Saturday, March 12th, will allow students to meet one-on-one with a number of professionals, and will give students an opportunity to receive immediate feedback on their work prior to building their final portfolios for graduate shows.

Students working toward any graphic design or illustration majors are invited to participate, and the event is open to students from all Idaho colleges and universities.

This event is taking place at The Lookout in the BSU Student Union Building, 1910 University Drive, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

AIGA Idaho and the Boise Advertising Federation are presenting Three Courses + Cake with Debbie Millman on Thursday, March 10th from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Debbie Millman is President of the Design Division of Sterling Brands, and President of AIGA, the professional association for design.  She has worked in the design business for over 25 years, including nearly 15 years at Sterling Brands.

Additionally, Millman is the author of three books:

• How to Think Like a Great Graphic Designer
• The Essential Principles Of Graphic Design
• Look Both Ways: Illustrated Essays on the Intersection of Life and Design

She also has a fourth book, due out in October, titled Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits.

This event is being held at the Linen Building in downtown Boise.  Space is limited and RSVPs are strongly recommended.  Cost is $18 for AIGA and BAF members and $25 for non-members.

AIGA Idaho will be screening LEMONADE in Boise on Wednesday, November 10th at the WaterCooler in downtown Boise.  A social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the screening starting at 7:00 p.m.

The screening is free to those who would like to attend, but a suggested $5 donation is recommended.  Proceeds from the film screening will be given to the filmmakers, to help with with their latest project LEMONADE: Detroit.

For those long-time readers, you may remember that we’ve mentioned LEMONADE in the past, and you may have even had a chance to watch part or all of it online.  Regardless, it’s a film that is worth seeing again, and a great way to support the efforts of Erik Proulx and company.

AIGA Idaho’s next event is coming up on Thursday, April 15th.  This event is titled The Savvy Designer’s Guide to Success and presented by Jeff Fisher.  From the event’s listing on the AIGA Idaho site:

AIGA Idaho is once again holding a Drink for Design event.  This one is scheduled for Tuesday, March 23rd (sorry for the short notice).

AIGA Idaho is presenting a screening of Typeface.

From the event’s description on their site:

Please join us on for this special screening of Typeface. Director Justine Nagan investigates how the value and purpose of older analog media have changed as our society has transitioned into a digital age in Typeface, Kartemquin Films’ (Hoop Dreams, Terra Incognita, At the Death House Door) latest documentary on art in society.

The screening will be held on Wednesday, January 20th, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Boise State University Special Events Center in the Student Union Building.  Cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.

An AIGA Boise State Mix/Mentor event will take place immediately following the screening, in the Jordan Ballroom.

In June, AIGA Idaho will be presenting The Histories of House Industries, featuring Type Director Ken Barber.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 18th starting at 6:00 PM.  Location is still TBD at this point, but it’s worth getting it on the calendar now.

AIGA Idaho is presenting their Semi-Annual Mix/Mentor Event this Tuesday, March 3rd. This event is “a great chance to see what BSU Graphic Design students are up to and opportunity to offer up some professional advice and direction.”

AIGA Idaho is also looking for members who are willing to serve as mentors and share an hour of time each month to work with students. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor, send the AIGA Idaho folks an email, and they’ll get you all the details.

As for the Semi-Annual Mix/Mentor Event, here are the details:

AIGA Idaho has yet another event on tap, and this looks to be a good one. Von Glitschka, Illustrative Designer with Glitschka Studios, will be presenting to the group on Thursday, February 12th.

From the event’s description:

Have you ever thought of a unique concept, but then wasn’t sure you could pull it off because it required a good amount of illustrative work and frankly speaking that intimidated you? Or your budget was such that you couldn’t hire it out either? So, instead you just pursued another design direction? Von’s “Illustrative Design” presentation will walk you through systematic illustrative design methods you’ll be able to integrate into your own creative process. On Thursday, January 15th, AIGA Idaho presents Design for Sustainability, an evening with John Turville, Cenveo FSC and Sustainability Expert.

John will discuss the core principles of FSC certification and what it takes to apply the FSC logo to your printed designs. He’ll also discuss considerations for designers who want to have a more sustainable approach.

The posters are currently on display at Flying M Coffeehouse in Boise and the Flying M Coffeegarage in Nampa.

This Wednesday, October 15th, AIGA Idaho will host a reception from 5:30 pm – 7:30 at the downtown Boise Flying M to showcase all of the designs, and the designers behind them.

The posters will be on display in both Boise and Nampa through November 5th.
