Friday Find: 1994 Rockies Intro

We came across this classic during a recent stroll through YouTube, produced by North by Northwest for the 1994 Rockie Awards.

From the video’s description:

In 1994, the Idaho Ad Federation asked vendors to produce openings for that year’s Rockies Show. North By Northwest chose “Newspaper”. The piece was shot in one night and was Jeff Noble’s first “day” on the job. It won for Best Intro.

How’s the Adventure Going?

As you may remember, earlier this year Drake Cooper and North by Northwest were casting a family from the Pacific Northwest for Adventures in Living — an online reality series to be developed for the Idaho Travel Council

As it turns out, they found their family, and are just past halfway through the vacation/filming.

Among the areas that they’ve either visited or are scheduled to visit:  Boise, Banks, the greater Island Park area, Sun Valley, Ketchum, Stanley, McCall, Hells Canyon, Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Wallace and Athol (Silverwood).

The full campaign is scheduled to launch in Spring 2010, complete with “Dedicated campaign website, complete with downloadable webisodes, podcasts, online maps and itineraries, e-coupons from statewide participants and communities and more.”  They’ve had some good press of the production, including coverage by the Associated Press, NPR, Idaho Mountain ExpressIdaho Business Review and more.

If you’d like to follow along with the rest of the trip, take a look at the Adventures in Living updates on Twitter

It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on the rest of this as it unfolds, and the full campaign kicks off next spring.

Hey Seattle, Need a Vacation?

The folks at the Idaho Travel Council, with the help of Drake Cooper and North by Northwest, want to send a family from Seattle on vacation in Idaho.

The catch?  They’re going to film the vacation as part of a reality show on Idaho travel.

Still interested?  Take a look at the Adventures in Living casting call page for all the details, submission requirements and such.

From their site:

The winning family will enjoy an all-expense paid, 8-to-10-day vacation in Idaho, including stays in Boise, Sun Valley, Coeur d’Alene and more.

The adventure vacation will be captured by a film crew to create a new web reality show. In addition to the trip, the family will receive spending cash, an adventure guide and a wake up call from life as you know it.

Filming will take place approximately June 19 – 29 and we are willing to make adjustments to this schedule to accommodate the right family, including working with their employer. As a thank you for participating, the family would be welcome to stay and enjoy Northern Idaho at no cost for three additional days – without the cameras.

Deadline for entry is May 7th.

MMG’s Work for University of Idaho Awarded

Marketing Media Group’s Legacy of Leading campaign for the University of Idaho was recognized recently by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The agency, along with the University, received two Gold Medal CASE Awards at this year’s CASE District VIII Conference, held February 18 – 20 in Seattle.

Specifically, MMG and U of I were honored in the Video and Multimedia category (Advertising Spots and Public Service Announcements) for their 60-second television spot titled, “I am more than the University of Idaho,” and also in the Web Site category (Web Site Special Feature) for the university’s innovative degree finder.

North by Northwest handled production of the television, and c308 Marketing developed the website.

The 60-second spot was primarily used at recruiting and alumni events and was part of a television campaign that featured three other 30-second commercials that ran in the Boise and Spokane markets. The Degree Finder Web Site is an addition to the university’s revamped Web Site and features a user-friendly method of matching prospective students’ interests with multiple degree options.

Congratulations to MMG, University of Idaho, and everyone else involved in this campaign. If you’d like to learn more about how it all came to be, MMG also has a Case Study of the entire process available on their website.
