In memoriam: Shane Jibben

North by Northwest recently shared the news that Shane Jibben passed away.

From the online tribute:

On June 5, 2022, Michael “Shane” Jibben, loving husband, father of two, and grandfather of one, passed away at the age of 68 after an all too quick and difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.

Shane was born on April 23, 1954 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Ernie and Hazel Jibben. While attending the University of South Dakota, he met the love of his life, Barbara (Manolis) Jibben. They married in May of 1978, and their two children, Mathew and Katy, were born in Rapid City before moving to Seattle in 1985. The family spent eight years there, where Shane and Barb built lifelong friendships and enjoyed being active in the community. The family moved to Boise in 1993, a place Shane loved to call home.

Shane put his family and friends first, and took pride in taking care of others. He served as manager of North by Northwest Productions, a film and video productions agency, for 25 years. There, he was honored to lead his team not only professionally, but personally. Shane made lunch for his employees and clients nearly every day, a simple gesture that spoke volumes to his giving nature. He had a passion for music, played multiple instruments including guitar, banjo, and accordion–most self-taught–and was a collector of Beatles memorabilia. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going on walks near the Boise River Greenbelt, playing music and studying music theory, taking on household projects with his wife, volunteering as the Maintenance Director on his HOA Board of Directors, and being an active member in the Rocky Mountain Highrailers model train club. Shane was known for his quick wit, his kind and compassionate spirit, and his love for family.

Shane was preceded in death by his son, Mathew, his parents, Ernie and Hazel, and his sister Lana. He is survived by his wife Barb, his daughter Katy son-in-law Adam, his granddaughter Kennedy, his grand-dog and walking buddy Moose, and his six sisters and their many family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12th, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Barber Park Event Center, 4049 S. Eckert Road, Boise, Idaho, 83716. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, please consider donating to the Mathew Jibbensmith Scholarship Fund at Pacific Lutheran University via the following link where you will find information for donating in Shane’s honor: plu.edu/tribute

Deepest condolences to Shane’s family and friends.

Who’s hiring nowadays?

Here are a few things we’ve come across recently:

Duft Watterson is looking for an Account Manager and an Art Director/Designer.

Mitchell + Palmer is on the hunt for a Director of Media and a Designer + Production Artist.

Suds Creative is after a Digital Marketing Manager and a Digital Media Coordinator.

And of course there are plenty of marketing-related jobs for those who are interested in life on the client side, including Digital Marketing Coordinator and Creative Content Coordinator with the Grove Hotel, or Graphic Designer with Block 22.

Other openings we should know about? Drop us a line.

Closing the loop

Things have come full circle for Morgan Lord.

Morgan recently rejoined CLM as a Senior Account Manager, according to a LinkedIn update. For those with long memories, you may recall that she began her agency career as a Media Buyer with the same shop, when it was known as Closed Loop Marketing & Advertising.

Prior to her CLM return, Morgan was with Mitchell + Palmer, most recently as Account & Media Director. She also spent time on the client side with Truckstop.com.

Congratulations to Morgan on the new role and return to the old stomping grounds.

And in related news, Mitchell + Palmer is looking for a new Media Director.

Sights from the show: The Rockies

Missed the Rockies this year, or feel like reliving some of the festivities? Not to worry — plenty of pictures were taken. Like these:

Chase-ing blue skies

After 40 years with W.R. Drake, Elgin Syferd Drake, es/drake, Drake Cooper, Sara Chase has called it a career.

From the announcement and Q&A with Sara on Drake Cooper’s reverb site:

In August of 1981 W.R. Drake & Co. hired a Media Buyer who would become a pillar of the agency for 40 years. Sara Chase has been our mentor, navigator, north star, and sunny side through every up and down of agency life during her dedicated and fulfilling career.

Sara has held several positions at Drake Cooper; she was our Media Director for ten years and our Account Director for over 25 years. She’s also been a Vice President of the agency. She’s been through four agency name changes, three downtown buildings, three ownership changes, and too many timesheets to count. In fact, she’s worked at Drake Cooper longer than our founder, Bill Drake. Sara has led some of our largest accounts throughout her career and those accounts have produced some of our most award-winning campaigns including the Idaho Lottery Commission, The Department of Health and Welfare, and The Idaho Travel Council. Her dedication and commitment to Drake Cooper has always helped us flourish and helped our clients shine.

So we say thank you, Sara, for being the person you are, and for being the person we needed to help us through all those years at Drake Cooper. We say it with a heavy but full heart and with the utmost respect and admiration. We can never thank you enough for all you’ve done for the agency — you built it, you brought it to life and you made it a better and brighter place every damn day. We raise a glass to you and wish you nothing but blue skies ahead.

The full Q&A is a must-read.

So much has already been said about Sara by those who’ve worked with her and know her well. Her influence on the industry, and on those she has worked with over the years, is unmistakable.

I’m certain it’s been said hundreds of times already, but I’ll say it once more:

Thank you, Sara, for all you’ve done.

Enjoy everything that’s next — whatever it may be.
