[Insert Appropriate Holiday-Related Headline Here]

Sorry, I just couldn’t bring myself to write a holiday-related headline this early in the season.  But the fact of the matter is that ‘the season’ is here.  And here’s one notable example:

Drake Cooper is putting on their Second Annual Turkey Drive, benefiting the Idaho Food Bank.  As they did last year, the folks at Drake are collecting turkeys to be donated to the Idaho Food Bank.  This year’s drive takes place on Friday, November 13th from 8:00am – 12:00pm.  Coffee and doughnuts will be available for everyone who brings in a turkey.

Another twist this year involves a little friendly competition: The agency/company/group that brings in the most turkeys this year will receive a prize package (of course you’re all free to write down Idaho Ad Agencies as the organization — really, I wouldn’t mind).

There is No Average American Consumer

That’s the word from an Ad Age Whitepaper — 2010 America: What the 2010 Census Means for Marketing and Advertising.  From the article introducing the whitepaper:

“The concept of an ‘average American’ is gone, probably forever,” demographics expert Peter Francese writes in 2010 America, a new Ad Age white paper. “The average American has been replaced by a complex, multidimensional society that defies simplistic labeling.”

The message to marketers is clear: No single demographic, or even handful of demographics, neatly defines the nation. There is no such thing as “the American consumer.”

While you may have already seen this news (it was originally published on October 12th), if you haven’t, take a few minutes to give it a read.
