IdahoRadioNews: Changes in sports radio

Another change is coming to the Boise radio dial. KINF-AM 730 will pick up the ESPN Radio contract in the market, effective January 1, according to the station.

The lineup has not yet been announced by Impact Radio, which owns the station. The move will force some changes at KTIK/93-1 The Ticket – which currently has the ESPN contract in the market. Jeff Caves, the station’s afternoon host, said he could not comment – but Impact GM Darrell Calton told me that 730 AM will be the exclusive home for ESPN content.

KTIK, for now, still has its tentpoles: Jim Rome (syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks), and local afternoon show Idaho Sports Talk.

In October, KTIK’s owner Cumulus announced it would drop ESPN in favor of CBS Sports Radio in 47 markets.

KINF-AM currently airs news/talk programming. This move will give the Boise market three major sports stations, along with KFXD/Sports 630.

Congratulations to both.

Lottery results are in

And it’s a split decision.

While we first got wind of this a couple of weeks ago, last Friday the Idaho Lottery made the news official:

Drake Cooper and CLM have both been awarded marketing services contracts.

Drake will handle all strategic planning and creative services while CLM will handle all media services.

From the folks at the Idaho Lottery:

“The current incumbent, Davies Moore of Boise, has been a pleasure to work with, has done an excellent job for the Idaho Lottery, and was in the running for elements of the contract going forward. However, good government practices require that we take significant contracts out for competitive bid when those contracts expire on their terms,” explained Idaho Lottery Director Jeff Anderson. “The announcement of our Intent to Award these contracts to both Drake Cooper and CLM was a result of their responsiveness to our Request for Proposals. I´m confident both local agencies will meet our marketing and advertising needs by providing the best value possible to the citizens of Idaho.”

“As a responsible state agency, the bidding process is healthy for us to achieve our goals and maximize our benefits to Idaho’s public schools and the State’s permanent buildings,” added Sherie Moody-St. Clair, Idaho Lottery Marketing Director. “We’re fortunate in Idaho that we have so many talented advertising agencies to work with. By separating the services, this unique idea will allow us the opportunity to have more resources available to provide responsible and effective marketing campaigns.”

Both contracts begin on January 1, 2013.

Recognition Galore

Some notable recognition we’ve come across lately:

For those that haven’t heard, Drake Cooper was named one of Outside Magazine’s 30 Best Places to Work. Coming in at number 26, Drake Cooper joins the likes of New Belgium Brewing, Clif Bar and a host of others on the list.

In June, Russ Stoddard, founder and chief executive officer of Oliver Russell received the Service to Community Award from his alma mater, the University of Puget Sound. The Service to Community award “recognizes talents or skills in projects that improve quality of life through human service, the arts, recreation, education, or other pursuits,” and was one of four Distinguished Alumni Awards presented earlier this summer by UPS.

Oliver Russell was also named one of the top 100 advertising agencies in the United States by BtoB Magazine for the fifth year in a row.
