Imagine

imagine.

That’s the headline you’ve probably seen by now on billboards around Boise. Three different billboards – each with a portrait of a woman who has undergone cancer treatment, and the side-effects that go along with it – are around the valley to promote Boise’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

The women featured on the billboards and in other pieces for the Boise affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure are Susan Chapman, Bobbi Fuller, Margo Vaughn, Cheryl Imlach and Stephanee Rowbury.

The billboards, website, and other support materials were developed by Stoltz Marketing Group. From the story on their website:

In the new “Imagine” campaign, the women’s portraits are embellished with imaginary hairstyles, illustrating what they might look like if a cure is found. The resulting race posters, web site and other collateral material are the work of SMG’s Crissie McDowell, Kate Holgate, Lindzee “Screw the Budget” Frei, and friend Katie Shamberg who together have raised more than $40,000 to find a cure over the last few years through their own nonprofit Think Pink, Inc.

Photography for the campaign was done by Todd Meier Photography.

There are a number of events leading up to the Race for the Cure on Saturday, May 9th. Be sure to check out the website for all the details.

DNA Helps Out the ARC

DNA Advertising in Boise, along with their client Dutch Bros. Coffee, are helping out The Arc during their 2008 Clothing Drive.

The clothing drive promotion runs from September 22nd – September 24th, from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM each day. Those who wish to donate “gently used” clothing during this time may do so at any Dutch Bros location, and in exchange will receive a coupon for $1.00 off any prepared drink.

And yes, while this appears to be an effort to drive traffic and drum up a little business for the local Dutch Bros. locations, I’ll give the folks at DNA some credit for trying to help out a local charity at the same time.

Dreaming Big and O-Pening the Purse

Dream Big is a program put together by Drake Cooper as a way to give back to the community, and more specifically to non-profit organizations that are in need of a little extra help. From the Dream Big section of their website: Through this annual program, we will work with one selected organization to help develop a unique in-kind branding and cause marketing campaign. We hope that our joint work with the charitable organization increases community awareness, understanding and inspires action around an important cause.

This program is similar to others, such as Oliver Russell’s O-pen Purse program, which offers donations or in-kind assistance to deserving non-profit organizations. From Oliver Russell’s O-Pen Purse application: Each year Oliver Russell partners with a select number of nonprofit groups to help them meet their organizational goals. We provide grants in the form of advertising, design and interactive services, marketing consulting, and, occasionally, monetary contributions.

Drake Cooper is currently accepting nominations for this year’s Dream Big program, and will be through October 31st. More information is available from a release on Drake Cooper’s website, or on the Dream Big page itself.

Oliver Russell is also accepting applications for next year’s O-Pen Purse program through November 1st. More information about his program is available on their website.

To both agencies, and everyone else who makes an effort to give back to their community: Well Done.

Giving Back – The United Way

For the past several months, a group of folks from several different agencies and the local creative industry in the Treasure Valley have been working to make the United Way of Treasure Valley’s latest campaign a success.

The end result: an integrated campaign that features a four-minute video, three television spots, newspaper ads, a microsite (HelpTheMostPeople.com), radio, online ads, collateral materials and more. This effort will benefit the United Way Community Campaign, which, in turn, allows the United Way to help over 30 local charities with funding each year, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Idaho Foodbank, Girl Scouts, and more.

This work was done entirely on a pro-bono basis, and those involved sacrificed a great deal of time — often their personal time, before or after business hours — to make it happen. At the very least, they deserve some recognition for their efforts. In no particular order, the group involved includes:

David Cook, Stoltz Marketing Group
Paul Carew, Carew Co.
Dave Sloyer, Wirestone
Kristy Weyrich, W Design
Doug Gneiting, Stoltz Marketing Group
Lorena Davis & Crew, North by Northwest
Todd Meier Photography
Robbin Gibson, Drake Cooper
Snake River Technology

The campaign is also benefiting from media donations from The Idaho Statesman, Journal Broadcast Group, and companies such as Citi, who donated funds toward the media buy.

David Cook provides even more detail about this project on the Stoltz Marketing Group website, if you’d like to read about it further.

At the end of the day, however, the goal is to drive as many donations to the United Way as possible. If you can donate, please do. If you’d like to learn more about the how’s and why’s of the United Way, take a look here.
