Positive News on the Media Front

Two separate articles in the past week have both pointed to some positive news from the media side of this business:

Radio Revenues Rebound in 2Q, Auto Ads Up – via MediaPost

TV ad sales looking solid for second half – via The Hollywood Reporter

Give the articles a read and decide for yourself.  Are they right? Wrong? Are you seeing things out there these days that support these theories?

MVAF Event: Not Every One is My Customer

Magic Valley Advertising FederationThe Magic Valley Advertising Federation will be hosting a presentation by Jay Longwell, President of Stratus Launch Marketing, titled “Not Every One is My Customer” on Thursday, September 9th.

From the MVAF’s event description:

Great marketing communications are nothing more than engaging people in a way that’s meaningful to them. It’s about communicating solutions, not product specs. It’s about connecting with true customer needs, not “speeds and feeds” whether it’s through words, music, or pictures or on television, radio, in print, or via the Internet.

This event will be held at the Shilo Inn in Twin Falls.  Check in is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., and the presentation will begin at noon.  Cost is $10 for members and $25 for non-members.  RSVPs are requested by Wednesday, September 8th, and should be directed to Debbie Currier at 208-404-3528, or via email to mvadfed@gmail.com.

Asking the Wrong Questions

A quick read for a Monday morning…

Came across this post recently, and thought it was worth sharing.  Given the changing nature of marketing, advertising, communications and public relations in today’s environment, I thought it was worth passing along:

The 8 Wrong Questions PR Firms Are Asking About Social Media

Who would you like to hear speak at BAF events this coming year?

Now’s the time to speak up and be heard.

No, I have no control over who the Boise Advertising Federation invites to speak at any events, but if you’ve got an opinion, now’s the time to chime in and give them some feedback.

So, who would you like to hear speak at luncheons or other events this year?

Me? I’ve got a list that includes:

John January and Tug McTighe of American Copywriter.

Sally Hogshead, Consultant, Creative Director, Author of Fascinate and Radical Careering

Luke Sullivan, Copywriter, Creative Director, Author of Hey Whipple, Squeeze This

Helen Klein Ross, Founder of Brand Fiction Factory, Voice of @BettyDraper

Robbie Vitrano, CEO and Founder of Trumpet

Iain Tait, Global Interactive Creative Director at Wieden + Kennedy

Britton Taylor, Planner and Strategist at Wieden + Kennedy

This list could go on and on.  But my question to you, dear reader, is this: Who would you like to see and hear from at an event?
